Environment

The Cancer Support Association of Western Australia Inc practices and promotes environmentally and ethically responsible business practices. CSA cares for the health and wellbeing of our members, and of our planet. We are committed to using and providing products and services which cause as little harm to the environment as possible. We believe that by living resourcefully, consuming wisely and recycling whenever possible each of us can contribute to a sustainable and positive future for our current and future generations.

Our printed products are an example of our commitment to caring for the environment. CSA's Wellness magazine and all our stationary, brochures and other promotional material are printed on 100% genuine post-consumer recycled paper which is oxygen bleached, thereby reducing the content of dioxin and other potentially harmful chemicals in the product. Our printer uses only vegetable based inks and chemical free solvents in an environmentally friendly printing process. While our products may not be glossy and shiny they are beautiful in an organic and natural way, and prove that you can be environmentally responsible and still look great!

If you are a financial member of the CSA you will have Wellness magazine mailed to you in what looks like a plastic mailing bag. Rest assured, these too are 100% plant based (derived from corn) and are 100% biodegradable and 100% compostible. Put the bag in with your worms and it should break down within a matter of months!

Ethical & Environmental Principles

CSA endorses business principles which evolved from the well known CERES principles. We encourage our business partners, associates and members in business to follow similar principles where appropriate and when possible.

  • We will ensure our business practice causes as little harm to the natural habitat and environment and biodiversity of the planet as possible. We will endeavour to safeguard habitats affected by our operations and protect open spaces and wilderness when we can.
  • We will conserve energy and improve the energy efficiency of our internal operations and of the goods and services we sell. We will make every effort to use environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources.
  • We will support and educate CSA members and the wider community to follow these environmental principles in their personal lives to the best of their ability.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the 'Universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
- Albert Einstein
