CSA Extraordinary Appeal

22nd October 2008

Dear Cancer Support Online Subscribers & CSA Members,

It will come as no surprise that CSA has experienced an exceptionally difficult financial year. The recent economic difficulties, which face the general community, have impacted on discretionary consumer spending to an extent whereby your Association’s fundraising capabilities have been diminished.

Notwithstanding, the CSA staff have skilfully balanced improved online and individual member service delivery, fundraising, IT infrastructure development, and increased general expenditure. They have done this with outstanding professionalism, and good humour. In addition they have forgone CPI wage increases since July 2006.

You have a new Board who have a vision for the future of the Association. However, in the knowledge of the support given to people diagnosed with cancer, their family and friends, unfounded allegations were made in relation to the management of CSA and to the conduct of the raffles. The resolution of the complaints has caused delays in fundraising, and has set your Association back financially.

Your Association’s energetic fundraising team have sought to counteract the financial challenges and reliance on raffles by introducing new fundraising initiatives – the Village Card launched in July 2008, and the November 2008 Challenge Week. Whilst the staff expect these initiatives to be successful, the financial gains are in the future – it is expected the derived income from the Village Card will take at least 12 months.

To overcome these setbacks, and to ensure we come through this difficult period successfully, your Association is launching an Extraordinary Appeal. Your Association seeks to raise $100,000 by 30 November 2008. By being united your Association can continue to make a difference to those whose lives have been touched by a diagnosis of cancer. YOUR ASSOCIATION NOW NEEDS YOUR URGENT SUPPORT.

A donation for the appeal can be made on the Donation page of this website. All donations are tax deductible, and all financial support is valued and sincerely appreciated. The Board and staff trust in your generosity.

Thank you for considering this Appeal, and your generosity. Together we can ensure the future of the CSA.

Yours Sincerely,

George Kingsley
