The Cancer Support Association is a non-profit independent organisation dedicated to providing information resources, support services and learning opportunities for healing and for the prevention of lifestyle diseases, and helping individuals make informed decisions about wellness and health so they gain a greater sense of control over their lives.
Given the increasing cancer rates in the world today and the devastating effect the disease can have on patients and their families, it is quite remarkable that as a society we have become complacent about the prevalence of cancer amongst us. Unless we or a loved one are affected directly, it seems that the causes of cancer are so entangled in our way of life that it is simply easier just to accept the inevitability of it.
Making Cancer Decisions
If you have been newly diagnosed with cancer you may be suddenly faced with some huge decisions to make regarding your cancer treatments, you may feel pressured to make decisions in a very short time frame, and you may feel the people around you feel quite devastated by your diagnosis and are unable to give you the objective help and emotional support you need. In these circumstances, and in all subsequent phases of the cancer healing journey, it is important to have access to accurate, unbiased cancer information, the time to make informed decisions, and support from medical professionals, carers, and a cancer support group or network.
Information Imbalance
The information you receive from your oncologist and medical professionals may not necessarily include balanced advice regarding complementary and alternative cancer therapies, or even the whole truth about mainstream cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, surgery or radiation. While the internet offers a wealth of cancer information, and health and wellness related sites, the sheer volume of cancer-related information presents a daunting task to anyone searching for quality information.
The Cancer Support Association (CSA) has sought to rectify this information imbalance both on the ground and online. At its Cottesloe premises the CSA offers individual information counselling sessions, monthly cancer wellness seminars, along with regular support groups, general counselling sessions, and complementary therapies such as reiki, yoga, tai chi, reflexology and massage. There is also the Wellness Shop for health and nutritional supplements, natural cosmetics and household products; and a comprehensive cancer wellness and healing library. The CSA library keeps the complete Moss Reports by Dr Ralph W. Moss Ph.D. in closed reserve -- these reports contain almost all the current treatment information relevant to almost all cancers.
Cancer Support on the Internet
The Cancer Support Association's easy to navigate website Cancer Support Online provides current, relevant and accurate cancer information about the whole spectrum of cancer therapies as well as essential online cancer services such as health profilers, a wellness questionnaire, online counselling, research papers, wellness publications, online access to our complete library catalogue, an online wellness shop, live cancer chatroom and much more. The CSA team has also compiled a Cancer Information Gateway to the most relevant and helpful cancer information sites on the web to help you on your wellness journey. Cancer Support Online can help with every aspect of your cancer wellness journey.
