CSA Mission

The Cancer Support Association of Western Australia Inc was formed in 1984 by a small group of individuals drawn together by the common bond of either having cancer, or having a loved one with cancer. The Association grew from their need for a support group to help overcome the emotional turmoil of fear, anger and helplessness that often accompanies a diagnosis of cancer. Over the years, this need for a cancer support group was broadened to include a greater choice of wellness and healing strategies and to provide timely access to quality information, enabling a more inclusive and holistic approach to cancer care.

Mission Statement

"To empower individuals and community toward wellness, healing and sustainable health".

Objectives

  • To help people recognize the importance of the environment and their personal contribution to living well and dying well.
  • To promote a holistic and inclusive, evidence-based approach to self-care and healing.
  • To provide information resources, support services and learning opportunities for healing and for the prevention of lifestyle diseases.
  • To enable individuals to make informed decisions about wellness and health, and to gain a greater sense of control over their life.

There are many people who were told by their doctors they only have a few months to live who are still with us today, years later. Their success is largely attributed to making some fundamental changes to their lifestyle and combining conventional medical treatment with meditation, balanced nutrition and positive thinking.

Through our mission, the Cancer Support Association of Western Australia Inc has modestly but effectively contributed to their achievement.

CSA logo

In 2008 we updated CSA's branding to reflect the growth and change of CSA. this included the development of a new logo. Our original logo was a line drawing of 'Wellness House, the heritage building we are located in. As a small community based organisation identification with a well-known historically significant Perth building was appropriate.

With the development of our website CSA took its place on the world wide web and it was necessary to shift CSA's identification to a more universally recognised symbol of healing and wellness. We selected a photographic image of a mauve lotus flower as it suited the tone of CSA and symbolised our mission statement perfectly. The lotus blossoms beautifully, even in the muddiest pool of water, and is spiritually significant in many cultures as it represents beauty, grace and peace in all circumstances.

For our new logo design we have redrawn the lotus image in the same colours and tones and added water ripples to reflect the continuing gentle growth and expansion of CSA.
