Lencie Wenden - Making Meaning From Cancer

The complexity of Lencie's experience has given her deep insight in to the world of the cancer patient, and of our public health system. Since her diagnosis four years ago, Lencie has become a passionate health consumer advocate. She writes and speaks publicly about her experience and represents patients and carers on a number of hospital and university committees.

Lencie is also an experienced journalist and journalism educator. Her professional skills and nosy nature mean that she isone of those pesky patients who ask a lot of questions and seek active involvement in their own care. Some of her doctors welcome this. Others are not so keen. Either way, this combination of skills make her a highly effective communicator, and combined with her very recent experience of serious illness allow her to give a persuasive voice to the patient experience.

Tuesday November 7th.  6pm - 8pm

Venue: Conference Hall

Look Good Feel Better is dedicated to teaching cancer patients how to manage the appearance- related side-effects caused by cancer treatment. Women, men and teens participate in a practical workshop which covers skincare, make-up and headwear demonstrations, leaving them empowered and ready to face their cancer diagnosis with confidence.

Our workshops include sessions on skincare techniques to alleviate symptoms including dryness and sallowness; makeup tips to help patients deal with concealing redness and drawing on
eyebrows; and advice on headwear including scarf styling and wig selection.

Each participant receives a Confidence Kit, full of skincare and make-up products donated by the cosmetic industry to use as tools for application throughout the workshop and to continue in their own homes.

Participants also benefit from the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation. Through our workshops friendships and additional support networks are formed that can help during their diagnosis and treatment.

Look Good Feel Better workshops are open to anyone undergoing treatment for any sort of cancer.

Day: Thurs
Time: 10am – 12.30pm
